David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye vs Tony ‘The Bomber’ Bellew… Saturday March 4th 2017 @ 6pm on Sky Sports Box Office.
Be excited, this is going to be lit!!!
Where did the trouble begin I hear you ask? Trouble has been brewing between these two titan heavyweights since WBC Cruiser Weight Champion Tony Bellew called out David Haye for being a ‘fraud’ and ‘conning the British public’ with his less than adequate opponents. They’re taking the bins out after… meaning in plain, simple terms… they’re crap! Bellew let out a torrent of abuse aimed at Haye accusing him of picking crap fighters and hyping up the fights when he hasn’t fought a ‘proper’ heavy weight since Wladimir Klitschko. “He’s faced one in Wladimir Klitschko, and he got played with for 12 rounds. He (Haye) basically s**t himself and blamed his little toe. It was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen.”
Hayes last two opponents were WBA #10 ranked Australian heavyweight Mark De Mori in January 2016. This was David’s comeback fight after 3 years into retirement. Haye knocked out De Mori in 113 seconds of the first round, making it a very easy nights work for him. He came in heavier than his usual weight, showing that he had put on a lot of muscle mass since retirement, however, with his methodical approach it was a wrap for De Mori. Hayes next opponent was the lesser known Swiss heavyweight Arnold Gjergjaj back in May 2016. Haye floored Gjergjaj with a right hand within 30 seconds of the first bell, and then proceeded to floor him again with a left jab and a chopping right in the second before the fight was waved off by the referee. Again, this seemed all too easy for Haye, but for the time period, pay and ranking movement, these guys were the right opponents to pick according to Haye.
The pair clashed after Bellews victory over American boxer Benjamin ‘BJ’ Flores in October 2016. Immediately after the win Bellew spotted Haye who had been commentating ringside. He launched through the ropes, had to be held back by his peeps and security as Haye watched on. An adrenaline pumped Bellew directed a verbal attack shouting “You’re next.” Haye just stood there and smirked! Haye had previously predicted a win for his fellow boxer BJ which clearly pissed Bellew off no end!
Bellew continued to use profanities in the post fight interview, taunting Haye. “Look at his hair… he looks like Sideshow Bob.”
“He (Haye) beat John Ruiz who was way, way past his sell-by date. He was older than my grandad.”
“I’m not even going to attempt to say that Nikolai Valuev was any good. He was a freak show. He was a circus act.”
Both fighters are confident they have what it takes to beat the other… But someone has to lose… right?
Bellew is relaxed about Saturday and his first ever heavy weight fight.
“The fact of the matter is, his dimensions are the same as mine and we’re the same height. He’s just got a bit more muscle than me. I will turn up next Saturday as the fat guy, but as the fat guy who can fight like f**k.”
Haye fuelled the fire on Saturday when talking to Sky’s Soccer Am team… calling Bellew a yapping Chihuahua!
“The Pitbull and the Chihuahua’s gonna be in a cage and we’re gonna see what happens to the little Chihuahua.”
The pair met yesterday in ‘The Gloves Are Off’ on Sky Sports 1 with Johnny Nelson refereeing.
