Reggae Sumfest is the largest open concert festival in Jamaica and takes place every year in mid July in the beautiful town of Montego Bay. Reggae Sumfest was founded in 1993 by Summerfest Productions.Whilst Reggae Sunsplash, which we all know and love was coming to an of an era, even though it was resurrected in 2006, Sumfest continued and continues to make huge waves!
Sumfest attracts crowds from all ages and backgrounds but is especially loved by the younger, hyper crowds and features a variety of Jamaican reggae artists such as Damian “Junior Gong” Marley and Stephen Marley, The Mighty Diamonds, Toots & the Maytals, Beres Hammond, Tony Rebel, Andy Vernon, Frankie Paul, and Freddie McGregor, dancehall stars like Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, Tommy Lee Sparta, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Capleton, and Lady Saw as well as international artists including 50 Cent, Rihanna, Usher, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, R. Kelly, Ne-Yo, Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, LL Cool J, Ludacris, Lionel Richie, Missy Elliott and Akon. Tickets for these days of the festival tend to be slightly higher price than the normal average ticket prices, but scout around you may find some going for less!
Reggae Sumfest kicks off on the tradional Sunday with the Sumfest Beach Party, the All White Party (dress code only peeps) followed by three nights of live performances beginning with Dancehall Night and then International Night.
